Orkney’s Pier Arts Centre was established in the late 1970s to house a superb art collection which charts the development of British modernism, gathered by author, peace activist and philanthropist Margaret Gardiner. This 192-page hardback illustrates every work held in the collection and includes artists’ profiles and comments on individual works. Artists featured include Kenneth Armitage, Ian Hamilton Finlay, Roger Hilton and Alfred Wallis. There is also a history of the Centre’s remarkable buildings.
