Mary Ann Kennedy and Na Seņid - Mary Ann Kennedy and Na Seņid
Mary Ann Kennedy and Na Seņid are a line-up of young Gaels with a lot to say and a big message to put across, which is basically that the culture of the Gael is not solely for old people, but vibrant, alive, and dynamic, even when the young folk singing and playing largely stick to the traditional musical ways. And that makes sense, otherwise how could an ethnic culture like ours have survived deliberate oppression, disdainful marginalisation, and so much more? Here you can hear Mary Ann, Gillebrģde MacMillan, Angus MacPhail, James Graham and Tormod MacArthur giving it their extremely best shot. Incidentally, you'll notice that the boys nearly always take the lead vocals, thus reflecting the group's name, which translates as Mary Ann Kennedy and The Heroes - or as she says in her sleeve notes "a gathering of Gaeldom's young lions". And you can't argue with that, especially on this showing.
