| Glaswegian and sometime Cornishman Mick West has compiled a fascinating collection of what might be called folk classics for Sark O’ Snaw, his latest release from Greentrax. Though many are from Scotland, with a few sporting a distinct Hibernian twist, one song, “Kringsatt av Fiender” (Face The Foe) remembers Norwegian anti-fascist radical poet Nordahl Grieg, who lost his life on an RAF raid on Berlin on the night of December 2, 1943.
A powerful collection, with the rather erudite pedigrees of its songs explained. |
