Byre In The Botanics – Live Music, Dance and Opera in St Andrews

Looking for a great night out in Fife? Byre In The Botanics will host outdoor concerts, performances and film screenings in the beautiful St Andrews Botanic Garden across the summer.

Byre In The Botanics, organised by the St Andrews’ Byre Theatre, opens on June 30 with Les Miserables star Samantha Barks in concert, and closes on August 6 with a performance of Macbeth after a spectacular programme of evening entertainment throughout July.

Top acts gracing the Botanics stage include Scotland’s best-selling female album artist Barbara Dickson and her friend of 40 years Rab Noakes on July 22, and not forgettin jazz icon Jacqui Dankworth who re-visits her father Sir John Dankworth’s seminal album ‘Shakespeare And All That Jazz’ on July 8.

One of the world’s greatest Celtic music acts

One of the world’s greatest Celtic music acts, Capercaillie, fronted by the sublime vocals of Karen Matheson, will be performing in front of the fully-covered seating area on July 23.

Other musical highlights include Scottish five-piece Breabach, whose dynamic brand of roots and folk earned them a Best Band nomination at the Radio 2 Folk Awards on July 9 and, direct from Louisiana, the New Orleans Swamp Donkeys, who gained over a million YouTube hits for their cover of the ‘Game Of Thrones’ theme are set to perform on July 16.

An electrifying new version of Macbeth

The stage at The Botanics will also play host to some unmissable live performances, including JSLN Dance from Berlin with Variations on Pointe (July 1 & 2); the acclaimed Opera Up Close making their Scottish debut with their smash-hit production of Bizet’s classic tale of romantic obsession Carmen (July 29).

Two nights of Shakespeare have been organised in celebration of the bard’s 400th anniversary – a night of songs, operatic arias and ensembles inspired by his plays and poetry on July 30, and an electrifying new version of Macbeth from Bard In The Botanics on August 5 & 6.

Before the live entertainment, a big screen will show classic films and major productions from Shakespeare’s Globe and Glyndebourne. Concert ticket holders can access the screening that night for free and children aged 16 and under go free to all concerts (excluding Samantha Barks).
