A-Z of Secret Edinburgh: Zazou

Zazou, Edinburgh's only narrowboat café

If you fancy exploring a beautiful part of the Union Canal with tea and cupcakes as your carrot, then head to Zazou – the only narrowboat cafe in town.

The perfect spot for duck spotting

Zazou is tethered to the towpath in Harrison’s Park, just a short stroll from the city centre and surrounded by parks and wildlife. Decorated with colourful bunting this cosy, floating café is the perfect spot for duck spotting.

Younger visitors are provided with a picture to colour in and their work is then put on the barge’s walls. Cyclists can take advantage of the bike pumps left lying around if they need to inflate their tyres and the café even sells puncture repair kits. And dogs are welcome.

Zazou is moored near Harrison Park, off Ashley Terrace, Polwarth. Thursday and Friday 10.30am – 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am – 6.30pm. Closed Monday – Wednesday.
