The Perfect Picnic

Scenic countryside, smoked salmon bagels, sparkling wine and a tartan rug on the loch-side . . .

It’s the latest experience for holiday makers in Scotland: a personal Picnic Butler to choose the perfect spot, point out local wildlife and, of course, serve up a luxury picnic.

The collaboration between VisitScotland and Forest Holidays is part of Scotland’s Year of Food & Drink, and launched this week at two of the most beautiful areas of Forestry Commission land, Ardgartan in Argyll, and Strathyre in Perthshire.

Experienced forest ranger and mountaineer, Jack Black, is to become the first Picnic Butler, and he’s looking forward to taking on his new role:

“Having travelled the world exploring and visiting some the highest mountains and greatest wilds, it’s only fitting that I am now taking on the greatest challenge of my career – being Scotland’s only Picnic Butler!”

The picnics are tailored to suit individual tastes

As for the picnic itself, the hampers feature a mouthwatering range of locally produced goodies such as Scottish smoked salmon and Caboc cream cheese bagels, Scottish crisps, Arran cheese and oat cakes, seasonal fruits, Tunnocks tea cakes and caramel logs, Heather Honey tablet, Irn Bru, Scottish spring water – and for romantic picnics, sparkling wine.

“Scotland’s incredible landscape and the natural larder go hand-in-hand,” Jack said, “and the two Forest Holidays locations offer excellent opportunities for picnics and discovering wildlife. It’s a pleasure for me to be a part of people’s holidays, creating moments they will treasure forever.”
