Scottish Heroes – Vote For Your Favourite Scientific Mind!

Chapter four in our new Scottish Heroes bookazine focuses on Scotland’s brightest scientific minds. Now we pit them against each other so you can choose your favourite

ASK any Scot what their country has given the world, and they’ll be able to proudly rattle off a list of Scottish inventions. And, no, the list isn’t limited to whisky and deep-fried Mars Bars.

It is said that necessity is the mother of invention, and that’s certainly true for Alexander Macintosh, who invented the waterproof to keep out the worst of the occasionally abysmal Scottish weather.

For other Scottish inventors and pioneers in the fields of science, exploration and technology, however, it was a case of curiosity – a desire to discover the unknown, and achieve something that had never been done before.

The heroes in this section all made game-changing discoveries and breakthroughs – not just in their field, but for the world.

It’s time to pick your favourite scientific Scot!
